First it was the UK version of GAME that entered administration, now the Australian version is suffering the same fate.
In a report on Player Attack today, it’s been revealed that the Australian chain of GAME stores has followed suit with the UK chain and entered administration.
Stories started circulating that GAME would not be selling Diablo III at launch due to “payment issues with shipping companies. Not only that but Kotaku Australia was reporting some customers were having issues with the store’s website during the same period of time.
The blows kept coming until this morning when a mass e-mail was sent to all stores explaining that the Australian wing had followed in the footsteps of the UK brand and entered administration which was confirmed to Player Attack by Game’s Marketing Manager who declined any further comment.
Kate Warwick had this to say on the fate of the stores in question:
“Initially we will continue to trade all stores, operating these on as close to a ‘business as usual’ mode as possible whilst we get a clearer understanding of the current state of the business and actively pursue options to secure its future.”
Sad to see all these game retailers facing such uncertain times but, hopefully we see a resurgence in the coming years.
