It seems that the next console from Microsoft might just be called the “Xbox 8” and there’s a plausible reason for it!
For a long period of time now, Xbox fans have been trying to figure out just what the next Xbox console will be called or if it will even be another Xbox. According to sources, the next Xbox console, code-named “loop” will be called “Xbox 8” to coincide with recent Microsoft naming tactics such as Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. It also makes sense with the upcoming generation of consoles being the eighth one, not because it’s the eight iteration of the Xbox.
ThisisXbox.com reported that the next-gen console was on display by invite only during CES 2012, running a version of Battlefield 3 in next-gen visuals – most likely to be up on par with current high-spec gaming PC’s.
At the DICE Summit, Epic Games VP, Mark Rein, confirmed that the Unreal Engine 4 would release later this year and that it is also running on “platforms that can’t be named yet” according to reports. This doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a new Xbox console however, it’s generally perceived that the next Xbox console will be the first to be unveiled. There’s always a chance it could be a new console competitor or perhaps a new Sony console.
This is a very interesting development and we’ll keep you posted as the news comes in.
