It’s going to be a classic series Monday night as the New York Rangers have defeated the Washington Capitals to move on to the Eastern Conference Finals.
It was all or nothing tonight for the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals with the winner going on to face Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils in the Eastern Conference Finals.
The Rangers had a little more on this night and are now just four wins from the Stanley Cup Finals. The matchups are now set for both Conference Finals with the Western Conference Finals consisting of the Phoenix Coyotes vs. the Los Angeles Kings and the Eastern Conference Finals consisting of the New York Rangers vs. the New Jersey Devils.
The Rangers got the opening goal early in the first minute of the game on a goal by Brad Richards. It was the only goal for about 50 minutes as there was a lot of tension and tight checking by the two teams. Micheal Del Zotto put the Rangers up 2-0 mid-way through the third on a screened shot that eluded Washington goaltender Braden Holtby. The Caps didn’t go away though as Roman Hamrlik scored just 38 seconds later to close the gap to 2-1.
That would be all that the Capitals could muster though as the Rangers held the 2-1 lead to win the series 4-3. They will go on to face the New Jersey Devils in a hotly anticipated series for the Eastern Conference Championship.
The Eastern Conference Finals begin Monday at Madison Square Garden in New York.
