The Originals: Vampires, “Witchery” and War

The Originals is a spinoff of the popular TV series, The Vampire Diaries, and focuses on the lives of the first vampires ever created and the demons that have haunted them for centuries.

The series was created by Julie Plec, who was a screenwriter and co-developer of The Vampire Diaries and is well-known for her work with the Scream film series, Kyle XY, and others.

It is a captivating tale of vampires, witches, and werewolves who are all searching for the same things: power, family, love, happiness, and freedom. As each group of supernaturals venture to find these things, their quests become more profound with new obstacles and twists unveiling as you travel deeper into their individual stories. It is not long before the story tangles into a tale of war amongst them all, with secrets, romance, alliances, betrayal, and death.

Due to my interest in most things fantasy/sci-fi/supernatural, I stumbled upon this series on Netflix earlier this week and I’ve already finished the first season. On a side note: the show stars two characters who play the mermaids, Cleo and Emma, on the show H2O: Just Add Water, which came as a pleasant surprise to me. I never had time to watch more than a few episodes of The Vampire Diaries, but I will certainly be watching it now. The Originals airs on The CW, and will be premiering its 3rd season on October 8, 2015! Unfortunately, Netflix only has season 1 available at the moment, but season 2 will be available on October 6th. I am excited to see how the story unfolds, and highly recommend this show if you are looking for something new to watch! And while we’re at it, some other good shows are: Haven, Once Upon a Time, Witches of East End, and The Secret Circle (which sadly has only 1 season). And if you need more ideas, click here. 🙂
