Last week Find Your Inner Geek had the opportunity to talk to an up-and-coming model from Oshawa. Let us introduce you to Chanelle Garrow!
Tell the readers a bit about yourself for those that haven’t heard of you or seen you before.
Hi my name is Chanelle Garrow, I am 20 years old and I am from Oshawa, Ontario. But I model in Toronto!
What made you want to become a model?
What made me want to become a model was the glamour side of modeling, dressing up, doing crazy hair and make up. I love that kind of stuff. I have worked many different jobs, and I think modeling has to be one of the best for that reason. You are basically a human doll for a day, for some that may be ridiculous, but from my point of view it’s a way to forget about the everyday stress and just have fun on the job.
Are you currently in school? If so, what are you taking and how hard is it to balance school life with your line of work?
I am not in school right now. I was in school at Durham College for psychology it was a very interesting course and I did enjoy it but I realized it wasn’t something I wanted to pursue.
I took some time off to find out what I really wanted to do and have gone more towards, holistic nutrition. I can imagine the balance will be tough but it’s not impossible so I am looking forward to the challenge.
What are the biggest challenges in the modeling/entertainment industry?
I doubt this is any secret as to what the biggest challenges are, but weight, height, and people skills are a challenge for myself.
With modeling you are expected to look a certain way, which sucks, and I disagree with. Everyone is different, and beautiful. I am 5’8 and my measurements are 2 inches too big. But I am healthy and that’s all I worry about, I may not be on the Victoria’s Secret runway but I have made it pretty far being healthy and happy.
Talk to the readers about the importance of nutrition/healthy eating.
Eating healthy is so important I cannot stress it enough. When you don’t eat or you eat unhealthy foods your body will react in ugly ways. I.e. weight gain, pale sick skin, breakouts, loss of energy, mood swings etc. Your body is the only one you have, don’t destroy it.
Any advice for young women breaking in the industry?
My only advice is don’t let this control you; remind yourself everyday you are beautiful. I have been told no a million times before I was told yes.
What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever done?
I have done a lot of crazy things. I think the craziest/ funniest moment was when I fell down a flight of stairs trying to get a poutine.
It was super late and I was out with my girlfriends and I wanted a poutine SO bad but everywhere was closed. I finally found a place that was open and ran down the stairs to get to the restaurant and ended up tumbling to the bottom. Luckily no one was there except the waitress who came running asking if I’m okay and if I needed anything and the first thing I said was, “I just want a poutine”.
I love my poutines.
What projects are on your horizon?
My project right now is to get my YouTube channel up and start school again. I have been meaning to get my channel started so I can share all my favorite products, behind the scenes on jobs, and more. I will get that started ASAP, I promise for those who have been waiting oh so patiently.
What is your main goal and how do you hope to attain it?
My main goal is to be happy honestly, I love my job, my friends, and family. I want to be happy and just keep doing my thing!
If you weren’t modeling, what would you be doing?
If I wasn’t modeling, I honestly don’t know what I would be doing. Maybe pursue acting or singing. I love the industry, it’s hard but if you want it bad enough you will get it.
What are some of your hobbies?
A couple of my hobbies are working out and networking.
I love to stay active, it makes me feel better and look better of course.
Networking, I love making new relationships with brands and sharing them with my followers. I know a lot of my follower base are models, younger woman and girls who want to get into modeling so I love sharing my beauty tips and brands I love using.
Have you ever had to turn down a project(s) and if so, do you regret doing so?
I have turned down a lot; I don’t necessarily regret them because if I turned them down it was for a good reason. A couple I regret turning down is international jobs for modeling, I wish I could be away from home for months at a time but I love my city and everyone in it. So for the time being I think ill stay in Toronto until I am ready to travel abroad.
