After around 4 years since the original roster split ended, WWE is deciding to bring back the WWE Brand Extension this summer!
With the influx of new talent coming in from NXT and only so much TV time to go around every week, the WWE Brand Extension is making its return. The last WWE Brand Extension lasted from 2002 until about 2011/2012 and WWE has been operating under one roster for both main shows since then. Not only will there be a roster split, but SmackDown will finally be going live every Tuesday night on USA. This is a welcome change for the blue brand as SmackDown has long-suffered from the prevalent spoilers that are available online the moment the show airs.
Here’s what WWE.com had to say about SmackDown going live:
“Beginning July 19, the second longest-running weekly episodic program in television history, SmackDown, will move from Thursday to Tuesday nights and air LIVE each and every week — for the first time ever — at 8/7 C on USA Network, the exclusive cable home to WWE’s marquee properties.”
WWE CEO Vince McMahon spoke about the roster division:
“WWE’s flagship programs will both leverage the incredible depth of our talent roster, distinct storylines and the unpredictable nature of live TV,” WWE Chairman Mr. McMahon said. “This move will undoubtedly build more excitement and deepen engagement with our fans around the world.”
Both Raw and SmackDown will have exclusive rosters and it will be interesting to see what WWE decides to do with all of the champions. One thing is for sure, things are about to get exciting in WWE.
