This week on NXT (2/1/2017), Ember Moon is in action along with a special attraction match featuring WWE UK Champion, Tyler Bate!

Ember Moon vs. Aliyah

I find myself really hoping that Aliyah will break out and jump into a more prominent role. Every time she has a match on TV she makes the most of the 3-5 minutes she gets. I don’t understand why she isn’t given more time to actually show how much she has improved. I thought she was great in her match with Ember Moon despite her loss. She’s come a long way since that girl on Breaking Ground that couldn’t cut a promo. She looks a lot more confident and ready to be an NXT regular.

Ember Moon put forth another solid performance. She really has a knack for making everyone look great when they square off against her. Ember sells really well and really makes you believe that someone might have a chance against her until she mounts the comeback and caps it off with an Eclipse. I really think it’s only a matter of time before she dethrones Asuka for that NXT Women’s Championship. It’s the match everyone wants to see and both ladies are undefeated. Book that one for Takeover: Orlando.

Tye Dillinger

Tye Dillinger ended up as number 10 in the Royal Rumble Match, but is he actually on the main roster now? No one seems to know. It wasn’t addressed on Raw or SmackDown so was it a one-off? I really hope Tye moves up. I fear he’ll end up like Tyler Breeze but I’m hopeful they can actually do something tangible with him. WWE has so much talent that they don’t utilize properly. They could fill a fourth brand will all the guys that don’t get enough time. Things might come to that at some point.

Oney Lorcan vs. WWE UK Champion Tyler Bate

The fans were treated to a special match on this week’s NXT featuring WWE UK Champion Tyler Bate. Oney Lorcan seems to always get the most interesting match-ups when we do see him. I really enjoy his work and I wish that we’d see him more. He has a hard-nosed style that not many people can pull off safely and I really respect that.

Tyler Bate wasn’t all that impressive to me. I just don’t think I like the UK style as much as the North American style and I haven’t seen any of the UK Championship Tournament to compare. Tyler won with the Tyler Driver 97 in a fairly short match.

Elias Samson vs. No Way José

Elias Samson is starting to really tap into the heel part of his personality using a lot of dirty tactics to gain an edge over his opponent. I’ve waited to see some type of personality out of Elias in matches because he’s been pretty stale up to this point. I’m still on the fence on whether he’s going to become a bigger star in NXT. This week was a step in the right direction even with the loss, but he needs to take it to the next level. It was also weird that he didn’t come out singing this week.

No Way José has been in a bit of a rut lately. It looked like he was starting to get something going and then for the last couple months it’s been just random smaller feuds for him. I believe he’s going to be held back by his gimmick because everyone looks at it as an attraction more than him being a legitimate title contender. It’s not a bad thing, but he is a much better wrestler than people probably give him credit for.

Corey Graves

Corey Graves announced his last NXT match this week and it was a bittersweet moment for everyone. NXT played a video package with Graves talking about how he had been there from the beginning and how announcing gave him a new lease on life after having to retire from active competition. It’s going to be really weird not to hear Graves on commentary on NXT. He has been the best announcer in WWE for at least a couple years now and he is very much a part of NXT. He brings a lot of knowledge and personality to the show and it definitely won’t be quite the same without him.

Conclusion

As with most NXT shows after a Takeover event, there wasn’t much to comment on. A few short matches and a bunch of recaps. I’m ready for next week from Full Sail.
