The 3/1/2017 NXT Recoil talks about Patrick Clark and, not one, but two championship matches on this week’s episode of NXT!
The Patrick Clark Experience Arrives…Again
Patrick Clark made an appearance on this week’s episode of NXT in a win against Sean Maluta. It was a pretty quick win, but I really started to notice a lot about Clark’s character in the match. Clark is a big man, I’m not sure of the exact size on him, but he could easily be a powerhouse. This character is far from that and I like that. We tend to have characters that are stereotyped to what they look like and that’s not necessary. Clark’s flamboyant personality can really start to get over with the crowd if he continues to own it as he has. I think it’s another one of those situations where they just needed to find something that fit the star and this seems to fit him well. I really think that once he starts getting on TV regularly he’ll be one of the most hated heels in NXT and I can’t wait to see that. Clark is still learning, but he’s improved a great deal since last year.
Royce Impresses Despite The Loss
I really thought that Billie Kay would be the breakout star between her and Peyton Royce when those two got together last year, but my opinion has slowly been changing. Billie Kay is great in her own right and she’ll be a good star, but I really am seeing more potential in Peyton Royce as of late. Peyton had a pretty decent match with Asuka for the NXT Women’s Championship before losing to the Asuka Lock. I like Peyton’s mean streak and the way she can get the crowd against her. She does it effortlessly.
The big story out of all this was Ember Moon coming down after the match to save Asuka from the post-match attack by Royce and Kay. Asuka would then hold the title up for Ember to see. I hope that Ember and Asuka face off at Takeover: Orlando for the title. I think it’s the right time for Asuka’s streak to finally come to an end. Ember Moon has been so popular and Asuka has literally beaten everyone in NXT. All good things must come to an end. Ember is ready to carry NXT and Asuka is ready to move on to the main roster.
The Revival Make a Statement
Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa battled Akam and Rezar for the NXT Tag Team Championships on NXT, but it was The Revival that stole the show. Scott Dawson and Dash Wilder came in and attacked DIY for the disqualification. They even managed to hit Shatter Machine on Akam. It’s about time someone got to The Authors of Pain who have been relatively untouched since debuting in NXT. The Revival are proving that they still have something left to do in NXT and I would really love to see them defeat The Authors for the tag titles to solidify their status as the best team in NXT.
It’s amazing how good Wilder and Dawson actually are. They bring a style to tag team wrestling that hasn’t been utilized in years. They’re the prototypical heel tag team that does everything to win at all costs. These 3 teams are so different, but work so well together. I want to see them in a match together to see what kind of magic they can create. DIY and The Revival was an amazing match twice, adding The Authors might make it even better.
The Final Word
It was a wrestling heavy week on NXT which is never a bad thing. It contributed to me not having a ton to say this week, though. Kassius Ohno will face Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship in two weeks which should be a good bout. I really love the diversity of talent in NXT, it’s amazing to see so many different stars every week. I enjoyed this week’s episode and I think they made a good decision to have nearly the whole episode be in-ring content.
