The 3/29/2017 NXT Recoil features our thoughts on The Revival’s tricks, Elias Samson leaving NXT, and Heavy Machinery’s victory!
The Revival’s Trickery
I loved that they had a triple threat match between the three tag teams that will face off for the NXT Tag Team Championships at Takeover: Orlando Saturday night. It was a welcome change from all the random tag matches that WWE likes to make. Scott Dawson ended up grabbing Akam’s leg from the outside to allow Dash Wilder to get the quick victory on Johnny Gargano after Akam’s Powerbomb. It was classic tactics from The Revival and it drove home the point that they’re a team to be reckoned with.
I think this is one of those matches that’s very hard to predict. These three teams are all so good and this match is going to be full of action from the very beginning. I do wonder whether or not The Revival will be moving to the main roster after WrestleMania, I think that plays into who I think will win this match. I’m not sure I’m ready for AOP’s reign to be over though. This is one of the most dominant teams in years and I’ve enjoyed watching them evolve. I also enjoy watching DIY chase for the titles. This is the match I’m most looking forward to on Saturday.
Heavy Machinery Pick Up A Win
For a couple guys in Tucker Knight and Otis Dozovic who didn’t seem like they were going to gain any traction in NXT, Heavy Machinery seem to be getting over just fine. These guys are bigger men, but they’re also very powerful. They tossed a guy from one Bear Hug to another which I’m not sure I’ve ever seen before. They’re an interesting team and they have a far different look from anyone else. I like that WWE is focusing more on diversifying talent rather than having everyone look like body builders. These two may not become a star team, but they certainly have some potential and I’d like to see where they end up six months from now.
Samson Leaves NXT
Kassius Ohno beat Elias Samson with a Rolling Elbow to banish him from NXT. Ohno destroyed Samson’s guitar for good measure. It really looks like Samson is heading to the main roster. I don’t know what he’ll have to do when he gets there. If a guy like Tyler Breeze or Apollo Crews has nothing to do, it really doesn’t seem like Samson has much chance to succeed. He has an interesting gimmick and people absolutely hate him so he has that going for him, but that’s also backfired on people in the past. I really don’t see him having too much to do. I do hope he succeeds because WWE definitely needs as many different characters as it can get its hands on with so many TV shows.
NXT Takeover: Orlando Predictions
NXT Title Match
Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Bobby Roode (C)
I have to go with Bobby Roode here. Roode hasn’t had the title very long and Nakamura is likely on his way to the main roster. Roode will retain.
NXT Women’s Title Match
Ember Moon vs. Asuka (C)
I think it’s about time for Ember Moon to be the main woman in NXT. Asuka has held the title a year and it’s time for her to move on up to the main roster too. Ember Moon will win her first title.
Triple Threat Elimination Match for the NXT Tag Team Titles
Dash & Dawson vs. Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa vs. The Authors of Pain (C)
The Authors of Pain should retain here, but I could also see The Revival winning. AOP retains the titles.
Aleister Black vs. Andrade “Cien” Almas
I think it’s obvious that Aleister Black would win in his debut.
8-Person Tag Team Match
Tye Dillinger, Roderick Strong, No Way Jose and Ruby Riot vs. Eric Young, Killian Dain, Alexander Wolfe and Nikki Cross
My pick for this match is Dillinger’s team. Sanity is due for a wake-up call and the strong team on the other side should do just that.
The Final Word
I’m excited for Takeover: Orlando! We’re being treated to one of the most anticipated women’s matches in NXT history, Aleister Black is making his debut, and then there’s Nakamura and Roode II. What more could you ask for?!
