The 6/13/2017 WWE SmackDown Live Analysis features my thoughts on the Tag Team Division, Lana, and the Money in the Bank PPV.

The Tag Team Division

The New Day came out accompanied by music by New Orleans’ Soul Rebels which was a really cool touch. These types of special things are what I wish WWE would do more of. The show started out with The New Day saying they were going to win on Sunday and The Usos coming out to say they would retain. Standard stuff. This brought out The Colons and Breezango and low and behold, we have an 8-man tag match, faces vs. heels.

Breezango and The New Day won this match which actually turned out to be a lengthy match. That’s rare for SmackDown so it was nice to see some focus there.  I think it would have been a great time to do a tag team Money in the Bank Ladder Match at this year’s PPV. How crazy would that have been? I believe we’ll see one of those some day. It would be difficult, but I think it would work.

We did get another Fashion Files segment this week and while they’re decent, it’s getting a bit old now. WWE has the tendency to run things into the ground and they’re getting there with these.

Ryder Is Back

Zack Ryder returned to SmackDown Live this week after suffering a knee injury late last year during a #1 Contender’s Match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships. The Hype Bros won that match and never got their opportunity due to Ryder’s injury. Zack said The Hype Bros have some unfinished business so it looks like we may be seeing these two back together sooner than later. It works out for Mojo who has been just going through the motions since his victory in the André The Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

Lana Stands Tall Heading Into MITB

Naomi had a decent win over Tamina on SmackDown only to be attacked from behind by Lana as she was celebrating her victory. Lana would give Naomi a sit-out move that must be her new finisher before posing with the SmackDown Women’s Championship. I really hope that Lana doesn’t capture the championship at MITB. It just doesn’t feel like she should at this point in her career. Sure, people will have a love/hate relationship with it (which WWE seems to love to do these days) but there are better options out there right now. If Lana somehow isn’t ready for the big show and she falters, it has the potential to derail her entire singles career. There’s a lot riding on this match.

The Viper Strikes

Jinder Mahal came out to talk about how Randy Orton fears him and how he’s going to cut away Randy’s legacy until there’s nothing left. Orton’s music would hit and The Singhs would go to cut him off at the ramp. Orton would hit an RKO out of nowehere after coming out of the crowd on Mahal. I’ll be interested to see who wins this match on Sunday

I’ll be interested to see who wins this match on Sunday. I’m not so sure that WWE is willing to run with Mahal and if they take the belt off of him at MITB, then nothing has really changed. My hope is that Mahal gets at least 3 months as champion. The likely scenario is that Orton will win the match and then the MITB winner will come down and win the title from him. That’s how I see it playing out anyways.

Charlotte Gets The Win Over Nattie

Charlotte and Natalya had a very good match on this week’s edition of SmackDown. They had a great one on an NXT Takeover event years ago and these two just seem like they have a lot of chemistry. It was nice to see this match being given the proper amount of time and not having to have any interference to get to the finish. Charlotte won a fair match with Natural Selection. With so much crap going on in the Women’s Division on SmackDown, this was a breath of fresh air. I expect Charlotte to win the MITB briefcase on Sunday, it fits her win at all costs personality well.

A Sign Of Things To Come?

We had a good ol’ 6-man tag in the main event of SmackDown. The match was good and the interactions between the teams were pretty amusing before the match. Kevin Owens was trying to get his team to work together to make their jobs easier on Sunday. AJ Styles was explaining how eccentric Sami Zayn was to Nakamura. The face team would win the match and everything would fall into chaos afterwards as a Ladder was brought into play. Eventually it was just Shinsuke Nakamura grabbing the briefcase at the top of the Ladder to end SmackDown which was a good way to end it.

I don’t think Nakamura will win on Sunday. It doesn’t fit his character to win the title with a cash in. I full expect that Baron Corbin will take home the briefcase, he may even win it and cash it in the same night if Orton is victorious over Mahal. One thing’s for sure, this PPV is sure to be one of the most exciting PPVs of the year with the surprise potential. I’m definitely excited to see what happens in both MITB matches.
