Devante Smith-Pelly has signed with the Washington Capitals several days after being bought out by the New Jersey Devils.
The Capitals announced Monday morning Smith-Pelly inked a one-year, two-way contract worth $650,000 ($300,000 at the AHL level).
Smith-Pelly was taken in the second round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft by the Anaheim Ducks out of the Mississauga-St. Michael’s Majors. He was dealt to the Montreal Canadiens for Jiri Sekac in 2015 and a year later was flipped to the Devils in exchange for Stefan Matteau. Smith-Pelly was bought out by the New Jersey Devils last week.
The six-foot, 215-pound winger had four goals, five assists in 53 games with the Devils this past season. In 266 career NHL games, he has 77 points while adding 33 points in 69 career AHL appearances.
