FYIG recently had the chance to talk to singer/songwriter, Go1d. Find out about his new song True Colours, his plans for his first EP, and more inside!
You started singing, writing, and performing at a young age. Did you always see yourself doing this for a living or did it just evolve into that over time?
Yes, I did visualize myself singing and performing for a living when I was younger. Everything evolves over time, it’s inevitable. Although I didn’t foresee myself as a triple threat; singer, songwriter, and engineer.
Talk about some of the challenges you faced getting to where you are today.
To be honest every challenge comes with a gift. By looking at my obstacles as a gift, I challenge myself and believe that I will achieve what I want. I trust this process because it makes me stronger.
From what I understand, you have done a lot of popular covers in addition to your own music. Do you have any favourites that you’d like to share?
One of my favorite covers I’ve done is “Hello” by Adele. I fell in love with this song when I first heard it and I’ve had a lot of demand for this cover. My fans were very persistent to hear it.
How did it feel to finally release your first solo single, Heartache?
It was a great feeling to release one of my babies to the world.
What was it like to tour with a name like Pitbull and collaborate with artists like Nicki Minaj and Bruno Mars?
The energy that is present among this much talent is amazing to feel and witness. I’ve learned a lot from collaborating with these phenomenal artists. You got to keep your ears open to all the gems that are being dropped
You just released a brand-new single called, True Colours. Tell us a little bit about the song.
True Colours is a song that everyone can relate to. We all have had that moment when you see a person for who they really are and at that moment you can see their true character unfold.
Toronto is featured heavily in your music videos. How important has the city been in your growth as an artist?
Toronto has been such a major part of my growth as an artist. I feel like I can channel the energy from the city and its culture. I feel like it’s my place to give back to the city that supports me.
Where/How do you find inspiration for your music?
I find inspiration in everything I do, whether it’s a conversation, an interaction or even the sound of birds chirping.
Do you have any advice for aspiring music artists?
I would say to trust the process and don’t ever give up.
Are there any plans for you to create an EP or full-length album?
Yes, I’ll be releasing My Ep “Loud Silence” this fall. It will consist of four tracks connecting my audience to me in a way they have never experienced. I’m really excited to share this next wave of music.
What are your career goals as an artist?
My career goals are to open a school for individuals that are gifted or have gifts to fine-tune. I hope to be an inspiration to others as they find their path. I also love food, so I’ll be looking forward to opening a restaurant business one day as well.
