The Minnesota Wild have traded forward to the Boston Bruins for forward and a conditional fifth-round draft pick, the teams announced Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Coyle has 10 goals and 18 assists in 60 games so far this season while playing an average of 17:13 of ice time per game.
Coyle has spent his entire six-year career in Minnesota, debuting with the club during the 2012-13 season. Coyle’s best season came in 2016-17 when he scored 18 goals and added 38 assists for a career-high 56 points.
The American carries a $3.2 million cap hit through next season on the five-year contract he signed with the Wild in 2014. He will become an unrestricted free agent in July of 2020.
Donato, 22, has six goals and three assists in 34 games this season. He is in the final year of his entry-level contract, which carries a cap hit of $900,000 and is set to become a restricted free agent.
He was selected in the second round (No. 56 overall) in the 2014 Draft and has spent the entirety of his brief NHL career with Boston.
