How did you both get your start in music?
Colton grew up in the Bay Area getting his start by studying classical and jazz piano. He got into producing through sampling records to make hip-hop beats. Tori grew up in Connecticut and got her start by performing in musical theater and writing her own songs in her free time.
How did you two come together to form, “Soft Streak”?
We met in college and became friends through sharing similar tastes in music. We both were working on different projects individually and then realized we should probably be making music together as well.
How would you describe your musical style?
Our sound comes from all of our different music inspirations. We’ve settled on an indie pop/rock sound with some electronic elements.
Your latest single is called, “Reasonable Lie”. What can you tell us about the song and the video behind it?
The song is about being in a relationship that might not be working out. The video was inspired by a French film that centered around a wife completing her mundane cooking tasks. We put a spin on it where the husband doesn’t show up and she ends up enjoying the meal by herself.
What can audiences expect from your latest EP, “Late Bloomer”?
The Late Bloomer EP is about being comfortable with yourself. It brings up issues that we’ve dealt with in our lives, such as impostor syndrome and social anxiety.
What’s next for your career?
Next is playing a set of shows in San Francisco this weekend, playing some LA shows this summer and releasing more singles!
What advice would you have for aspiring singers/songwriters?
We’re still aspiring ourselves but I would say write as much as possible and don’t give up.
What are your lives like outside of music?
We love exploring LA searching out good food and new places to hang out at!
