Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am 20 years old, I’m from Rockwood Ontario and I like to look on the bright side of life.
How did you get your start in music?
I started piano when I was 5 and fell in love with making music. I loved making music so much that I never learned how to read music. My love for music later gave me a love for songwriting and producing.
What are your musical inspirations?
Classic Rock has always been a huge inspiration for me. The Beatles, U2, R.E.M, etc. But I’ve honestly been influenced by R&B Hip Hop growing up as well.
How would you describe your musical style?
My musical style is a mix of things. I’ve always been influenced by different genres of music, so my style has changed over the years. I came from an Adult Contemporary/Folk background but recently my music has been closer to R&B Pop. The album that I am working on is very diverse in terms of genre, but it is an overall R&B Pop sound.
Talk to us about your new single, “I Want Your Love”.
“I Want Your Love” is a song about meeting someone for the first time, locking eyes, and experiencing love at first sight. It is basically a fantasy of what unexpected things could happen on a night out at the bar/club. The song features Kofi Black, an artist from New York. It is a party/good time summer jam!
What was it like working with Earl Powell, Ben Pelchat, and Kofi Black on this single?
Getting to work with Earl Powell and Ben Pelchat has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. The way they operate in the studio is amazing. I have learned a lot from watching them work. I have become a better artist because of it! And Kofi, unfortunately, wasn’t in the studio when he recorded his verse, but I have spent a lot of time with him since. He has shown me what it means to be a true artist and a performer. I am very lucky to have been able to work with and learn from such incredible mentors.
What can audiences expect from your upcoming album, “The Animal Inside”?
Audiences can expect a wide variety of stories and vibes that ultimately shape who I am as an artist and person. The Animal Inside represents inner-ambition and drive to follow your dreams. It is a relatively feel-good album, but it can be sad at times. It’s truly a rollercoaster.
What do you hope people take away from your music after they listen to one of your songs?
I hope people have a breath of fresh air from all the self-absorbed negativity we hear in most music these days.
Do you have any live shows coming up? What is the experience like at one of those shows?
I have a showcase at Midem in Cannes, France on June 6th. I will be showcasing my Album and my latest single. My shows are a mixture of high energy and ballads, depending on the venue. Overall a good vibe.
What advice do you have for aspiring singers/songwriters?
My advice for singer-songwriters is to be open-minded with the people around you. Art is precious and personal, but you don’t know what you don’t know.
What’s your life like outside of music?
I love downhill skiing and downhill mountain biking. I highly value friends and family, and I love being outdoors. Family Guy is my favourite show.
