Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born and raised in Colombia and I’m currently living in Miami. My real name is Santiago, which in French is Jacques (Jack). I come from a family that has been involved with music in one way or another. So, I’m so thankful for having the opportunity to be always surrounded by music. Also, I’ve had the blessing of working within the music industry from various points of view; As a musician, songwriter, singer, engineer and ultimately as an EDM producer.
How did you get your start in music? Was it always something you wanted a career in?
My family plays a big role in my career. When you have the support from all the people who love you, the path becomes easier. When I was a little kid, I was part of a musical theater academy, which taught me so many things, like being professional and respectful towards my passion. “Misi”, the leader of that academy and my first mentor, had an important role of who I currently am as a professional. After that, I went to college and got a Master’s degree in Music.
How would you describe your musical style?
It’s a blend between Pop and EDM. When it comes to programming the tracks, I always go with production techniques that are very common in electronic music. Melodically and lyrically, my songs are very radio-friendly.
Your latest track is called, “#whatever”. What can you tell us about this song?
#whatever is the third single from what is going to be my second studio album: ”Globality”. For this album, I’ve been blending some elements from music around the world into my tracks. For #whatever, I wanted to add some Latin spice, especially on the rhythmic side.
What was it like working with Milena Berns on the track?
Milena is my wife, and we’ve been writing songs together for a few years now. In fact, “Let’s Go Away”, a song included in my first album “Mile 01” was written by both of us. The songwriting process for #whatever was really fun. I had the track almost ready when she jumped in, and as soon as she listened to it, she came up with this whatever concept. I loved it from the beginning, so the rest was finding a way to tell a story with a positive message in it.
What’s next for your career?
I’m focusing on writing songs and making tracks for my next studio album, “Globality”. Also, I’ve been curating a vast collection of records that go with my style, because I want to have my own sound as a DJ just like I have as a producer. So definitely, the next step in my career will be performing live shows.
What advice would you have for aspiring producers/DJs?
Things don’t happen overnight within the music industry, so be persistent with your dreams. You need to build a solid career as well as you need to build a brand. It takes time, but the road is so worth it!
What’s your life like outside of music?
I really enjoy spending time with my family. Also, I’m very passionate about soccer! Love watching it and playing it.
