Tell us a little bit about yourself

My name Is Heather, otherwise known as Crowjane. I am a Makeup and Special effects artist based in Los Angeles, CA, USA. I am also a musician and I just released an album during the pandemic called ‘ Mater Dolorosa’.

How did you get into being a make-up artist?

I was always an artist. In high school under the pressures of ‘ deciding on what to do with your life’, I was trying to think of ways that I could possibly make a living off of art. I thought about makeup artistry and how it was essentially painting on a face, How most of my art consisted of human anatomy and creatures. I went to makeup school in LA, interned at special makeup effects labs, and built a network through freelancing.

Do you prefer working on a certain genre of games/movies?

I prefer to work on Sci-Fi and Horror.

How does being a make-up artist for a video game versus a movie differ?

It majorly differs. In video games, I’m mapping out the character’s muscles on their face with a series of dots for the animators to build the character. On movie sets, I am building the character.

What your favorite project that you’ve worked on?

I have worked on so many different kinds of projects. I have favorites for different types of jobs. My favorite big TV show that I got to work for is Star Trek. My favorite experience in film was on an Indie film for a movie called Dissonance. My favorite video game I got to work for was Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order.

You’re also a musician. What led to you getting into music?

My family has a handful of musicians in it. I have always loved music. What largely has made me be so in love with music is out it makes me feel.

How would you describe your musical style?

What can audiences expect from your latest album, “Mater Dolorosa”?

CrowJane "Terminal Secrets"

An expression of a lot of emotion, experimental rhythms, pretty melodies, and dark moods

What advice would you have for aspiring make-up artists and musicians?

Find what keeps you inspired, go where the love is, and don’t always base your “success” on how much money you are making.

What’s next for your career?

More of everything. Bigger productions from being in the Union. More albums that are going to be released

Do you have any funny stories from backstage, on stage, or in the studio?

I did a movie in the Arctic, which is the ‘Dissonance’ movie I mentioned earlier (coming out soon). At one point a part of the movie, in the format of SD cards and hard drives, was left on a dock from a ship we got off of. We had to try to find this suitcase in the middle of the arctic. Luckily, it’s such a small town that we ended up finding it in the office off the dock. If we were in Downtown Los Angeles, I doubt that we actually would have found that suitcase.

What’s your life like outside of the entertainment industry?

I like to get away from the city a lot. I love nature and animals. I am currently answering these questions while cuddling with my cat.
