Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Well, I’m called Brandyn Killz. I’m an artist who creates to bring listeners closer to closure and back to the dance floor. I’m the personal hype man coming through your speakers to remind you to dance and let you know I’m your #1 fan.
How would you describe your musical style?
I like to call it Electro Soulpop. The lyrics, melodies, and singing style are all throwbacks to soul references of the past, but layer in a pop-inspired, modern electro vibe. The music is heavy on the live instruments, especially drums, and uses exciting synths to keep it electric.
You have 10 years of music production experience. What led to this being the right time to create your own music?
I really felt like I wanted to be the one to tell my story my way. I wanted to be completely hands-on and have the first and last say on how every part of my music was experienced by the listener. The timing just felt right and it all worked out so much better than expected.
What can you tell us about your latest single, “Losin’ It”?
“Losin’ It” is such an electric wave. It’s so EDM and fun. I wrote it to remind listeners that you always have someone fighting for you, even when you feel like it’s a losing battle. I dedicate it to all the fighters out there and those cheering them on.
Your debut EP has over 100,000 streams since December 2020. What’s it like to find such quick success and know that people are digging your music?
It’s insane. I’m so happy that people are loving the tunes. It’s really a dream come true and a huge motivation to keep trusting the process and my purpose. It’s a gigantic accomplishment, and I’m so thankful to everyone who’s streamed the songs.
Has COVID slowed down your process at all?
Not at all. If anything, I think it’s done the opposite. COVID has given me so much more time to work on my craft and get to know my fans and the industry, and also examine my purpose on an entirely new level.
What’s next for your career?
I’m working on an album right now. I’m super excited about it. It feels new and fresh and all the sounds are coming together nicely. I can’t wait to share it. I’m also excited about music videos and photoshoots, and live performances to come.
What advice would you have for aspiring music artists?
Get out of your own way. Allow yourself to be great. Don’t let fear, insecurity, or comparison to others stop you from trying and making the most of what you’re passionate about.
What’s your life like outside of music?
I’d say it’s relatively normal. There’s the day job to keep the bills paid, but otherwise, I split my time between hangin’ out with my husband, blasting balls on the tennis court, binging awesome shows and movies on streaming apps, and loving on my family and friends as much as possible.
