Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hey there! My name is Zoe Zobrist and I’m a singer/songwriter originally hailing from Dallas, TX. I am primarily based out of Southern California but have been living in Savannah, GA this past year. I love adventuring, riding my motorcycle, studying natural health and I am currently pregnant with my first baby!
You’ve been writing your own songs since the age of 7. Was a career in music something you were always set on?
Yes, it was! I remember going to a festival with my mom when I was about 5 and seeing a girl singing on stage. I knew immediately that was what I wanted to do!
How would you describe your musical style?
I grew up listening to my dad’s 70s record collection so there’s definitely some classic rock influence in the music I make. I listen to a lot of indie and would place my music in that genre. I think people can also hear the southern influence in my voice at times.
How have you evolved as an artist since your first single in 2018?
Through a lot of songwriting, shows, and experiences I think the biggest way I’ve evolved is that I’m now a lot more comfortable with myself as an artist now. I’m much more self-sufficient because I’ve learned to trust my intuition more.
Your latest single “Oh Baby” is a very personal song. What can you tell us about it?
I wrote “Oh Baby” when I found out I was pregnant with my first child. My life was pretty chaotic at the time, so I sat down to write like I usually do when I’m trying to make sense of things, and I ended up writing it as what felt like a letter to the little life I was growing.
How excited are you to eventually share your love for music with your future child?
I am soo excited! I loved growing up in a house that was very musical due to my dad having played in a band growing up and my sisters being dancers. Even if it’s not something my child has an interest in pursuing personally, I think it will be really cool to introduce him to different artists, genres and see what he ends up enjoying!
What’s next for your career?
I’m currently living in Savannah, GA until the holidays, near the army base my husband is stationed at. Then, we’ll be moving back to Southern California! After getting settled I plan to get back into playing shows & have plans to go to DC and record in the spring. There will be lots of new music coming!
What advice would you have for aspiring singers/songwriters?
Write a ton of songs even if you don’t think that every single one is “good.” Allow yourself to experiment and find joy in the creative process itself and not be so overly concerned with the outcome. I think that when you’re doing that and spending lots of time on developing your craft, everything else follows. Trust your instincts and make sure the situations and circles you’re in feel positive.
What’s your life like outside of music?
Lots of adventuring. I love the beach, hiking, riding my motorcycle, paddle boarding, etc. In the near future, probably lots of diaper changing hahaha.
